When the Balance Was Zero, God Stepped In: Trusting God's Timing When All Else Fails

✍️Earlier this week, I read a simple yet profound statement:

“When the balance was R0.00, that is when God stepped in.”

That line struck me deeply. How many times do we ask God to intervene, yet secretly hold on to our own backup plans? We say we trust Him — but still have something up our sleeve "just in case." A second option. A safety net. A way to fix it ourselves.

But what if God is waiting until we run out of plans?

Faith Begins Where Control Ends

As I thought more about this, I realized something: many of the miracles Jesus performed — and the deliverance stories in the Bible — happened when there was no more human solution left.

Let’s take a closer look:

🔹 Lazarus – Dead for Four Days

(John 11) Jesus didn’t rush to Lazarus' side when He heard he was sick. He waited — on purpose. By the time He arrived, Lazarus wasn’t just sick; he was dead and buried. The situation was beyond repair. But Jesus said, “Did I not tell you that if you believe, you will see the glory of God?”

➡️ God moves when the situation is beyond human help.

🔹 Jairus’ Daughter – Clinically Dead

(Mark 5:35-43) While Jesus was still on the way, the little girl died. Everyone said, “Why bother the Teacher anymore? ”But Jesus said, “Don’t be afraid; just believe.”

➡️ Even after the door seems closed, God still opens it.

🔹 Moses – Sea in Front, Army Behind

(Exodus 14) God didn’t split the Red Sea while Moses stood back. He told Moses to step forward in faith, and then the sea opened.

➡️ Obedience before the miracle. Faith before the breakthrough.

🔹 Jesus Feeds 5,000 – Not Enough for All

(Matthew 14:13–21; John 6:1–13) A great crowd followed Jesus. The disciples had only five loaves and two fish. It wasn’t nearly enough for the thousands present. But Jesus took what they had, gave thanks, and multiplied it — feeding 5,000 men, plus women and children.

➡️ When we bring our not-enough to Jesus, He makes it more than enough.

🔹 Jesus Feeds 4,000 – Again, Not Enough

(Matthew 15:32–39) Not long after feeding the 5,000, another crowd gathered. This time, they had seven loaves and a few small fish. Again, Jesus gave thanks and multiplied it — feeding 4,000 men, plus women and children.

➡️ Jesus doesn’t just do it once. He proves He is consistently able to provide in impossible situations.

🔹 Paul & Silas – Praising in Prison

(Acts 16)They were beaten, chained, and jailed — yet chose to worship. At midnight, God shook the prison and set them free.

➡️ The darkest hour is often God's perfect moment.

🔹 Joseph – From Pit to Prison to Palace

(Genesis 37–50) Before Joseph saw promotion, he faced betrayal, false accusation, and years in prison.

➡️ Sometimes the path to purpose runs through a prison.

🧭 So What Does This Mean for Us?

Many of us are in seasons where:

  • The job opportunity has dried up.

  • The bank account says R0.00.

  • The relationship is broken.

  • The diagnosis is discouraging.

  • The door is shut.

And that’s exactly where God steps in.

Why?

Because when we still have a plan, we trust the plan. When we still have options, we trust our options. But when all that’s left is faith, that’s when we truly trust Him.

💡 God’s Power Begins When Ours Ends

The Bible is full of moments where God waited until the situation was desperate — not to hurt us, but to show us that He alone is the Source.

“My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.”— 2 Corinthians 12:9

When we let go of our own strength, that’s when we grab hold of His.

🕊️ The Call: Wade into the Faith of God

Just like Moses had to step into the water, we are called to step into faith — even when the way forward seems blocked.

It’s time to stop relying on backup plans. It’s time to stop calculating what we can do. It’s time to start trusting what God will do.

Because His plan comes into fruition when we no longer have one.

✨ Final Encouragement:

“Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord.”Psalm 27:14

Your “zero balance” may be the beginning of God’s greatest miracle in your life.
